How to Write a Business Listing That Actually Brings In Customers

Open any business directory and you will see the same pattern: a business name, a phone number and two sentences such as “We provide the best quality services at affordable prices. Contact us today!” That listing tells a customer almost nothing. It does not say what the business sells, who it is for, where it works or why anyone should call it rather than the next result.

A good listing does the opposite. It answers the questions a customer would otherwise have to ring up and ask. This guide gives you a structure you can follow in about twenty minutes, whether you list on BioneersLive or anywhere else.

Start with the customer’s first question

Someone who lands on your listing wants to know one thing first: can this business help me? Your opening sentence should answer it plainly. Compare:

  • Weak: “Welcome to Sharma Enterprises, a leading name in the industry.”
  • Strong: “Sharma Enterprises repairs and services split and window air conditioners for homes and small offices across south Delhi.”

The second version names the service, the type of customer and the area in one line. A reader knows within five seconds whether to keep reading.

List what you actually sell

After the opening, describe your main products or services, ideally three to six of them, with a sentence on each. Be concrete. “Gas refilling for all major brands, usually done in one visit” is more useful than “AC services”. If you have a speciality, such as commercial kitchens, children’s dentistry or Shopify stores, say so. Specialists are easier to choose than generalists.

Avoid long comma-separated keyword lists. They are hard to read, they look like spam to customers, and search engines have ignored them for years.

Say who you serve and where

Customers filter quickly. A bakery that only takes wholesale orders, a lawyer who only handles property cases, or a tutor who only teaches online should say so early. It saves everyone time and brings you better enquiries.

Location matters just as much. Name the neighbourhood or town where you are based and the area you cover. If you deliver or work remotely, explain how far. “Free delivery within 10 km of Koramangala; nationwide shipping by courier” answers the question completely.

Explain how it works

This is the section most listings skip, and it is often the one that converts a visitor into a customer. Cover the practical details:

  • Booking: walk-in, appointment, online form, WhatsApp?
  • Hours: including weekends and holidays.
  • Turnaround: same day, within a week, depends on the job?
  • Pricing: you do not have to publish a price list, but explain how pricing works. “Inspection visit ₹300, adjusted against the repair bill” builds trust instantly.
  • Payment: cash, card, UPI, invoices for businesses.

Give a reason to choose you

Finish with what makes your business a safe choice. Good reasons are specific and checkable: years in business, qualifications, licences, the number of projects completed, a warranty you honour, languages you speak. Weak reasons are vague superlatives such as “best”, “number one” and “world class”, which every competitor also claims.

Add photos that show the real business

A listing with real photos gets noticeably more attention than one without. Show your shopfront so people can find it, the inside of your premises, your team at work and examples of finished products. One honest, well-lit phone photo is worth more than a polished stock image, because customers can tell the difference. Our photo guide covers how to take them with a phone.

Keep contact details complete and consistent

Use the same business name, address and phone number everywhere you appear online: your website, Google Business Profile, social media and directories. Inconsistent details confuse customers and make it harder for search engines to be confident that all those pages describe the same business.

Double-check that the phone number is answered, the email address is monitored and the website link works. A dead contact detail loses the customer at the very last step.

A worked example

Here is a short listing written with the structure above:

GreenLeaf Tiffin Service, Andheri West

GreenLeaf cooks and delivers home-style vegetarian lunch and dinner tiffins for office workers and students in Andheri West and Versova.

We offer three plans: a standard tiffin (two rotis, rice, dal, one sabzi and salad), a light tiffin for those watching their diet, and a Jain tiffin without onion or garlic. Menus change daily and are shared every Sunday on WhatsApp. We also cater small office lunches of up to 40 people with a day’s notice.

Plans run weekly or monthly, Monday to Saturday. Lunch is delivered between 12:30 and 1:30 pm and dinner between 7:30 and 8:30 pm in insulated steel boxes that we collect the next day. A monthly lunch plan costs ₹3,200 and you can pause it for holidays with a day’s notice.

Our kitchen is run by Meena Shah, who has cooked for families in the area for over twelve years, and is registered with FSSAI. New customers can order a two-day trial before choosing a plan.

That is about 160 words. It tells a customer what they get, what it costs, when it arrives, who cooks it and how to try it. It needs no superlatives at all.

Review your listing every few months

Businesses change. Prices move, opening hours shift, new services are added and old ones dropped. Put a reminder in your calendar to reread your listing every three months and update anything that is no longer true. An accurate listing keeps customers trusting you, and it keeps directories like ours happy to show it.

When you are ready, add your business to BioneersLive. Every listing is reviewed before it goes live, and the ones written like the example above are approved fastest. Our listing guidelines explain exactly what we look for.
