Digital Microblading: Types, Difference, and Side-Effects

What is Digital Microblading?

Digital microblading at Metamorphosis is the semi-permanent procedure of getting fuller, more defined brows, by using a machine to carefully fill in your brow lines with soft, gentle hair-like strokes.

Digital Microblading vs  Traditional Microblading –

The key differentiation between the two is that digital microblading uses a machine, whereas traditional microblading is done by a hand-held tool.

Digital microblading is done by a specialized Permanent Makeup Machine, also known as PMU Pen, that uses a digital motor to precisely implant ink into the skin, at a certain depth and speed, to create delicate hair-like strokes.

Traditional microblading uses hand tools that do not move up and down rapidly like a machine tool – instead it is completely dependent on the artist’s skill and precision to create hair-like strokes and manually slice the skin to insert the ink – without any powered motor.

Why opt for digital microblading?

You should opt for digital microblading if you meet the following criterias –

  1. Oily or Thick Skin – The motorized pen in digital microblading blends colours more naturally, giving durable results for such skin types.
  2. Mature Skin – if your skin has wrinkles, fine lines, is dry and has started producing less collagen, your skin is less elastic and thin, meaning it is more prone to scarring. In such cases, machines are gentle and more precise than hand held tools.
  3. For a softer, powdered brow look – If you prefer powdered brows like done by makeup, digital microblading is to go for!
  4. For colour corrections/ cover-ups – If you are unsatisfied with a previously done unprofessional microblading that has discoloured, or you want to refill your faded brows, this option is the best for you.

Types of Microblading

  • Hairstroke Brows

Hairstroke Brows is done using digital microblading that creates fine hair-like strokes that give a minimal look – best for people who do not wear heavy makeup or want a digital look. Your face ratio, bone structure, and personal preference is also taken into account!

  • Combination Brows

Powder Brows is a shading only method. Just like you fill in your natural brows with eyebrow pencil, in this method, a PMU pen is used to shade in your natural brows – making the saturation as soft or as bold as you like! Powder brows are best for those who have lighter but fuller brows, or clients with old permanent makeup that have discoloured over time, or need cover-ups.

  • Powder Brows

Combination Brows is the best of both hairstroke and powder brows. Through combination, the gap between hair strokes is filled with ink by digital microblading to blend color or darken brows, by crafting soft hair-like lines throughout the browline for structure or just at the front for a soft, natural look. Plus, shading (like powder brows) are done on the body and tail for definition. It is perfect for patchy brows, reshaping, or adding color.

Digital Microblading, done by using PMU Pens, can also be used to give you lash enhancements and lip-blush. Here’s how –

  • Lash-line Enhancements

This is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing procedure done to create a thin line over your natural lash-line, giving it a more fuller look as it darkens the gap between your lashes. It is a pain-free procedure and takes around 4 weeks to heal.

  • Lip Blush

Lip Blush by Metamorphosis is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing procedure in which semi-permanent ink is injected into your lips via a PMU pen – giving it a more defined, pouty look. Lip blush can also help with discoloration. The colour looks fresh and natural for 2-5 years, after which it might need a gloss of pop!

Is Microblading Safe? What are the Side-effects of Microblading?

Microblading is a safe, cosmetic procedure, provided it is done by a trained expert who follows health and safety standards ethically.

If done correctly, the only side-effect to microblading is that your brows appear to fade over-time. However, when done without appropriate care, the superficial cuts pierced into the skin can cause a greater risk of infections, which can even cause scarring.

Microblading, however, should not be done by pregnant or nursing women, or persons who have active skin conditions like eczema, acne, psoriasis or rosacea.
