American Airlines adjusts the price of its flights depending on demand, time of booking, and seasonality. In general, the best days to buy cheap American Airlines tickets are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. They also fall outside peak travel times of Fridays and Sundays, making them great options for flyers trying to cut back on their travel budgets. Many airlines release new fare deals, such as American Airlines, at the beginning of Monday evenings; these deals are followed, starting Tuesday morning, by price adjustments by competitors. Therefore, booking a ticket on Tuesday may save you a lot of money. In general, midweek travel—on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays—provides the cheapest fares. These are off-peak flying times, in other words, they fall outside of peak travel periods, such as Fridays and Sundays. The peak times are when you are traveling for weekend getaways and business trips on Fridays and Sundays, and these are usually more expensive. In fact, if you can be flexible about your travel schedule, off-peak days could mean huge savings. General afternoon booking on Tuesdays and Wednesdays is often recognized as the most ideal time for a trip on American Airlines. Airlines are compelled to lower fares beginning Monday nights, after which the discounts and offers they have on display are mirrored by the competition on Tuesday morning. This means passengers can obtain attractive deals on different flight routes by Tuesday afternoon. In addition, planning to fly a month in advance—for trips of domestic nature, one to three months in advance—for most of the routes operated by airlines has been noted to reduce the cost for trips by 25-50 percent. Generally, if one is free to choose when to go, off-peak days may offer enormous savings. In particular, in a study published in the Journal of Economic History, for example, it has been established that in most years from 1934 through 1999, the months of September, October, November, December, January, February, and March offered the lowest prices for trips in the United States. These months saw very little air traffic. The highest fare prices generally come out on Friday and Sunday. The most popular times to travel include Friday afternoons for short getaways and business trips, as well as long-distance weekend getaways and business trips on Sunday mornings. By contrast, the most discounted flight prices generally appear to be during midweek traveling, especially Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Midweek travel represents off-peak flying since less air traffic is on these days; airlines consequently drop prices on these off-peak times to help improve seatfill. Generally, booking a trip to an off-peak destination on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday could save you money. If a carrier does not impose any surcharge, an airline is expected to decrease the fare if a competitor offers a fare decrease or even discounts that fare. However, most carriers will not offer a cheaper price than what has already been provided to another route for an airline flight, unless there’s a situation whereby another airline has also dropped the fare and/or a discount.
