This veteran Navy man founded profitable businesses in a variety of fields, accomplishing significant milestones along the way.
Suresh Nanda entered the Indian Navy after finishing school, following in the footsteps of his father and a famous soldier, Admiral SM Nanda, and with the goal of serving the country. He withdrew from the Indian Navy after a distinguished 15-year career to create one of India’s first private enterprises specializing in the repair and maintenance of foreign gear in the defense industry.
Suresh Nanda is drawn to the hotel sector since he is a frequent traveler. During a trip to India in the 1990s, he had the opportunity to work in the hospitality sector at a luxury historical hotel that was in disarray at the time. He continues, “The Claridges Hotel in Delhi was at conflict with the High Court of Delhi.” I filed a bid despite having no prior experience in the hotel industry. I received a call from the High Court informing me that “you have been picked as the highest bidder.” I arrived in Delhi, signed the contract, paid the due expenses, and stepped inside Claridges to find everything in a state of disarray.”
The Claridges New Delhi is now one of India’s finest luxury hotels, keeping its colonial past while also providing ultra-modern facilities to its guests. Surprisingly, it’s also one of the few hotels in the country with strong occupancy rates in the midst of the epidemic. “Our occupancy level is high, and we just had an occupancy level of 80 percent,” he recently told Businessworld. Only 30% of the city’s population would be affected. That demonstrates our belief that what we’re doing is what our consumers want, and that we’re getting results.”
Suresh Nanda Claridges became one of the first Indian international hoteliers when he built the opulent Taj Dubai after establishing his footprints in the Indian hospitality business. Taj Dubai, located on Burj Khalifa Street in Business Bay, has become a popular destination for foreign visitors. The exquisite hotel is an amalgamation of rich Indian heritage and local customs. The international world has hailed him for his outstanding efforts.
The Crown Group, on the other hand, has grown to become one of India’s and the world’s largest defense corporations. It recently took part in the Aero India 2021 exhibition, where it debuted an anti-drone rifle and other indigenously produced technical breakthroughs. The group’s new weapon is said to have received widespread praise from stakeholders. The Crown Group is quickly stretching its wings around the globe with the goal of not just ‘Making in India,’ but also ‘Taking India to the World.’
Suresh Nanda is the chairman of the Crown Group and the Claridges Hotel Group.
